So many reasons! Firstly, I liked the family feel. I have always felt ‘lost’ in my other schools so I wanted to be somewhere small and that felt safe. I also loved the fact that I would be surrounded by people who also loved maths and physics! My other reason was the extra opportunities EMS provides, being a dedicated maths school.
My greatest achievement to date is writing a musical complete with an original score.
That is such a hard question as literally every second has been a highlight. Being part of student council is definitely a highlight. Curriculum X was definitely a highlight, in particular The Nature of Light. Physics problem solving is without doubt a stand-out memory and a highlight. It did so much for my confidence and I had a whale of a time.
EMC has been a highlight as well, not only in terms of the incredible opportunities (I still can’t quite believe I worked on a project for Dyson!) but also the experience of teamwork and working with the most amazing people!
The people, without question. It is so much more relaxed and non-competitive than I imagined and more acceptance that I even thought possible. I never knew people like those at EMS existed (both staff and students).
My absolute dream is to do a PhD in particle physics and then work as a researcher and study neutrinos
My main advice is enjoy every second! Don’t compare yourself to other people, don’t try and be like anyone else because being you are awesome (another thing EMS taught me). Always reach out for help because it’s there for you and there is no stigma as you may have experienced before. Grab hold of every opportunity and enjoy it!
