Experiences and insights

You won’t find a higher quality of teaching anywhere in the South West.

What are your hobbies and interests?
I like a bit of rock climbing and bouldering and am looking forward to getting back on the wall post lockdown. It’s like vertical problem solving.

What’s your greatest achievement to date?
Academically, my greatest achievement would be getting my First Class Honours degree last summer. However I would say the thing I am most proud of is the person I have become and the confidence I have gained through my time at EMS, university and now working.

Do you have any advice for future applicants?
I really do think that if you love maths and want to study the A levels offered by EMS then you should definitely apply. You won’t find a higher quality of teaching anywhere in the South West. You also won’t find a nicer bunch of like-minded students anywhere else.

What memory of your time at EMS has stayed with you?
I think the best memory I have that has stayed with me was playing D&D with a group of friends after school. It’s something I would have never done going to a different college but I enjoyed it more than I ever thought I would.

How has your time at EMS helped you in your future endeavours?
The Exeter Mathematics Certificate offers such amazing research opportunities through local businesses and individual projects. The skills I learnt through these projects helped massively at uni. Also, the bits of coding and computing we learnt (even though I didn’t do computer science) have made such a difference in programming classes at uni and now in work.
