Exeter Maths School, in partnership with The Cornerstone Academy Trust is delighted to have been awarded official Computing Hub status by the National Centre for Computing Education.

The National Centre for Computing Education is funded by the Department for Education and marks a significant investment in improving the provision of computing education in England.

The Devon and Dorset Computing Hub is a focal point for local computing training across Devon and Dorset – providing high-quality support for the teaching of computing in schools and colleges, from Key Stage 1 through to A level. Our extensive range of training, resources and support covers elements of the curriculum at every Key Stage, catering for all levels of subject knowledge and experience.

Whether you’re a teacher, employer or resource provider, there are plenty of ways you can engage with us.

Loan Physical Computing Kit

Overview

As a Computing Hub, we have Physical Computing Kits for KS2-4 that we can lend to schools for up to 6-weeks. This allows you to plan a significant section of your course, knowing the resources will be available for you.

The kit contents can be found below and link to the free units of work available from the Teach Computing Curriculum:

Year 5 – Programming A – Selection in Physical Computing (Crumbles)

Year 6 – Programming B – Sensing (Micro:bits)

Year 9 – Physical Computing (Micro:bits)

Teaching Programming to 5- to 11-year-olds (Bee-Bots)

We are also able to offer free face-to-face CPD, demonstrating the physical computing kit and how the Teach Computing Curriculum can be used to engage students. If you’d be interested in attending this CPD, please contact us via: TeachComputing@exeterms.ac.uk

The kit contains:

  • 17 battery packs for 2x AAA batteries (batteries not included!)
  • 17 USB cables
  • 40 croc clip cables

The kit contains:

  • 6 BeeBots with 6 cables
  • Docking station with lead
  • 2 pen holders
  • BeeBot carry holders
