Congratulations to The Castle School, who have won the 2015 Kings-Exeter Mathematics Competition. In teams of three or four, students were asked to submit a video lasting 5 minutes or less, in which they explore the work of one of these great mathematicians and scientists:

Rene Descartes;

Muhammad al-Khwarizmi;

Jean Baptiste Perrin;

Srinivasa Ramanujan;

Sofia Kovalevskaya;

Florence Nightingale.

Videos were judged on three aspects:

A clear explanation of the mathematics

Information about how that mathematics is used – what is its impact? Is it used today?

Other interesting facts about the mathematician or scientist – what is it about them that is impressive or interesting?

The Castle School ticked all of these boxes, even going as far to tackle the proof at the end of the video – A huge congratulations to Amy, Daniel, Harry and Zoe who will have their prize of a graphical calculator each presented at The Bank of England!
